What Cement Board Is
Fibre cement board is Portland cement reinforced with cellulose fibres, pressed into dense, flat sheets. The result: a sheet that cuts and screws like wood but behaves like concrete — fire resistant (non-combustible), water resistant, termite-proof, and dimensionally stable. Standard sheets are 4’×8′ (1220×2440 mm), 6–20 mm thick.

Fix to MS framing (not wood in damp areas) with corrosion-resistant screws at 200–300 mm centres; leave 3–5 mm gaps between sheets and fill with flexible sealant — cement board expands slightly with moisture. Score-and-snap works for thin boards; use a diamond blade for 12 mm+. Always wear a dust mask when cutting.
